How to Start a Blog or Niche Website And Make Money

In 2021, due to lockdowns and mandates, more people than ever before began to look for ways to earn money working from home. In particular, many looked at blogging as an online business. The problem though, was that many of them didn’t really know how to make money from a blog. So just how can it be done?

Keep reading and I’ll go through 3 steps that you need to take to become an online blogger.

First, you need to find the right niche to work in. You need to find a “hungry market,” people who are looking for information to read and looking for products to buy.

It also needs to be a niche that you’re interested in because you’ll be writing a lot of blog posts about it.

Once you know what you’ll be blogging about, you then need to create a blog. This is simple to do using all the blogging software available. You can even set up a blog for free through platforms such as Google’s own Blogger service. Blogger has been around for years and is used by many successful bloggers, including me.

Once you’ve set up your blog, fill it with useful content, products to sell, and onsite advertising for extra income. Some bloggers earn thousands this way, selling products online as affiliates, and earning money through PPC advertising.

Once you get enough pages set up, it’s time to market your blog to get as many visitors as possible. And if you have an email subscription box on your blog, you can stay in touch with all those who sign up.

Marketing can be paid for, or can be done for free through social media and article directories. When you’re first starting out, it’s better to use free marketing, although you can go ahead and pay for it if you want to and if you already have the funds. Personally, I’ve never paid for online advertising for any of my website and blogs. Perhaps I’m leaving money on the proverbial table by marketing this way, but my online success over the years has been good without it.

And that’s the 3 steps you need to take. Choose your niche, set up a blog, join an affiliate network to find products to promote, and market your blog in as many places as you can to get thousands visitors. Just make sure you’re marketing in the right places to get the right kind of visitors.

Will Your Business Benefit From a Blog?

Blogging has been around for quite some time now. It is rapidly becoming the another alternative for getting news. It has evolved from being a venue for ranting and raving about a subject or sharing personal goings on to a tool used by business to share information with employees or customers to replace the newsletters.

If you are considering a blog for internal company communications, then think about what you want the blog to represent and the type of information you want to share. Plan your blog before you being to investigate tools to use for it or assigning someone to maintain it. Otherwise you may select the wrong tool and have the maintenance person using too much time on a “part-time” assignment. Also, if the blog is to replace a current company newsletter in print or via email, you better do a poll to make sure the employees are willing to check the web rather than have paper they can read at break or direct delivery to their desk via email. If no one is willing to go to the blog to get the information, it is a waste of time and money to build a blog.

If you are considering a blog for external communication, typically to existing or potential customers but you could include suppliers too, then you need to consider the information to be shared as well as your presentation. Should the blog have a consistent look with your other brand and marketing tools? Should it be part of your website or stand-alone from it? Is it mainly a marketing tool, a training program, for information sharing, or some combination? Who will provide the articles/posts for the blog and how often? If you plan to use the blog to replace a newsletter, how will the current readers know when the blog is updated? Will you send an email to notify them of updates or just inform them of your planned frequency of post so they can check for themselves? Will you use Twitter or another social network to communicate your blog as a part of your marketing campaign?

If you are a small company or independent consultant considering a blog, do you really need one? Perhaps it might be better to partner with another consultant or company to share responsibility for a blog that would benefit both of you. If you want to write primarily to share information, but do not want to build your own blog, consider guest posting on an independent blog that already exists which provides posts with the type of information you wish to share. You can review the candidate blog to see if they have more than one person doing their writing. If they do, look for a contact and send an email suggesting your topic and asking if they would like a guest article or post done by you. This saves you time in building a blog and searching for an audience. This will build your confidence in your ability to provide data for the blog in case you decide later you need your own blog, and then you will already be prepared for the hardest part of blogging.

Before you build a blog, ask the questions above for the type of blog you are considering. Then decide if your company really needs a blog.

So, have confidence in yourself, my friend, and I will see you at the top.

Naming Your Blog – Good Blog Titles

Deciding on a good blog title and selecting a domain must be based on target keyword placement. With both Domain and a Good Blog Title you want to include at least one target keyword, but what is the target keyword?

Well that will depend on your Niche and there is a rather large list of options. But that will depend on you to decide on the niche, preferably something you love doing. Then simply think of the One Word that will best describe your blog. And then you also have to establish the search volume and level of competition for that keyword. Because any blog title must contain keywords with a high search volume and low to medium competition.

Therefore it is of utmost importance you create a free Google account and be able to use the Google Keyword Planner tool. Which is a free tool inside Google Ad-Words but you have to activate the Ad-Words account by funding it. No need to place any adds just yet because you merely need access to the arsenal of tools. Later on your blogging journey you will use many tools only accessible through your Google account. Like the Google Search Console and Google My Business, but that is a topic for another article.

The title must summarize the content which will decrease the bounce rate of your visitors. It immediately tells the visitor exactly what the blog is about. And it is also easy to remember with no exclusion to your domain name. It should not exceed 60 characters and must be as short and precise as possible. This is important for both title and blog post display window in Search Results.

Place that one target keyword with a high search volume as the first word in both blog title and domain name. That way when search engines crawl your blog the target keyword is clear. And they can categorise your blog more targeted.

But it must always be within context. Just cramming a bunch of keywords together is how Not to rank in search engines. The title of your blog is your chance to attract search engine visits or spider crawls. The blog title is mentioned first in the site map to any blog.

Try to avoid stop words like (the, and) but this may seem more challenging than is often anticipated. Although it is more of a rule when it comes to the URL slug of a Blog Post. Just a personal preference and SEO tactic I’m currently testing. So no, it will not influence your blog SEO. Providing stop words are not present in post URL slugs or the Primary Blog Domain.

With a good title also comes the tagline which must be equally short and objective. A tag line is not a site description which is why it is called a “Tag” line. Therefore it is usually no more than three words. Always remember that later with SEO you are going to need space for your Blog Post Title. A search result normally show the following;

Blog Homepage – (Blog Title / Tagline)

Blog Page – (Page Title / Blog Title)

Blog Post – (Post Title / Blog Title)

A good title is your chance to not only attract more visitors. But more importantly having them want to stay on your blog. This is where the quality of your content plays its part because a good blog post must have great content.

When your visitor reads the title they must immediately know this is what they have been looking for. Which is why along with your blog title also comes the First Impression. Base that on your own first impression by seeing your blog through the eyes of your visitor.
